Can't use outside of demo

When I include this code in my own (empty) project, I get an error in the VS2010 WPF designer : "cannot modify the logical children for this node at this time because a tree walk is in progress".

I experienced the same error when I use WPF SplitContainer in another project. Cannot figure out why but I highly suspect it's a bug of VS2010 WPF designer since the application runs well at runtime. I did find a workaround though by splitting the UI XAML into two parts, by making a separate UserControl that contains the SplitContainer, and using this UserControl.
